Drying specialists stack wood in an enclosed, heated compartment, or kiln. In order to maintain a constant moisture content while drying the wood, steam is circulated at carefully-regulated levels. This ensures a dryness that would be impossible to attain by air drying, and reduces the chances of shrinkage.
